APPROACHING EARLY RETIREMENT :

Many people take Early Social Security Retirement -- and substantially reduced benefits -- because they are disabled. These people will continue to receive reduced benefits for the rest of their lives. For example, anyone born between 1943 and 1954 taking Early Retirement at age 62 receives 25% reduced Social Security Retirement benefits. A spouse will lose 30% in Retirement benefits.

Social Security Disability is a better alternative. The monthly benefit is the same as Full Retirement and it continues until Full Retirement age. The best part is -- claimants may receive Medicare BEFORE Full Retirement age AND they can collect benefits while going through the application process.
